Why this brand exists

The fish was never the problem. The price stack was.

Ex-vessel is the bottom rung of a six-step ladder: first receiver, processor, wholesaler, distributor, foodservice, retail. Every rung above the deck is a margin the old model gave away. Sovereign.FISH exists to climb the ladder on behalf of the people who catch the fish.

Sablefish is repositioned as a premium branded loin, kama and flat-can product rather than a J-cut commodity. Hake and trawl bycatch become surimi, mince and portioned retail. Herring becomes kazunoko and spawn-on-kelp. And the 50-60% of biomass that used to go over the side becomes oil, collagen, gelatin and meal.

Every vessel below is drawn from the condition and valuation surveys carried out by James Kitagawa, Certified Marine Surveyor (IIMS Canada #1083), for Leader Fishing Ltd. between January 2020 and February 2026. Specifications, official numbers, tonnages and valuations are quoted as surveyed. Photography and the licence-to-hull assignment are the two remaining gaps.

Against an approximately $55M package ask, the steel is not what is being bought - the licences, the quota and the 9.90% sablefish position are. Valuations are as-surveyed on the dates shown, obtained by the surveyor from a local brokerage and not re-tested here. Southern Ridge was surveyed in water in January 2020 and needs a current survey before close.

The banquet channel is the target

Wedding banquets, business hosting and celebration dining move live and ultra-premium fish at USD 37 to 80 per kg wholesale. That is the price band our sablefish, live rockfish and air-freighted halibut are built for - not the commodity frozen block.

Hamper season is where provenance converts directly into price. Premium seafood hampers built on dried and preserved seafood, fish maw and roe are the established centrepiece of the luxury gifting category - and roe already signals abundance and offspring without inventing a story.

The Air-Land Fresh Lane changed the clock

Since August 2025, fresh and live seafood arriving at Hong Kong International Airport for re-export to the Mainland can be transferred within the air cargo terminal, cross the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and clear customs and quarantine directly in Zhuhai - no second inspection in Hong Kong.

Operationally that is the whole argument for the fresh programme. Halibut landed, packed and flown within 24 hours can reach a Guangdong table on a shorter clock than before, which is what makes fresh - not frozen - the highest-value form for this lane.
